Pentax DA 50-200mm Sample Photos : The Pentax DA 50-200mm is a joy to use and another great value from Pentax. Very light and compact (about the same size/weight as the 18-55 kit lens), it's a lens that travels well. The focus is quick and accurate. Colors are bright and punchy, with good contrast even at the long end.

It's a pretty versatile lens. While it's not very fast in the aperture department, I have gotten some shots from a distance in dark situations -- spot metering is a must. I didn't think I would use it much for street shooting, but some of my favorite shots from my Pentax DL so far were taken with this lens.

Pentax DA 50-200mm Sample Photos

Pentax FA 50mm 1.4 Sample Photos : I really like the Pentax FA 50mm 1.4; it's a great value for the price: fast, very sharp, and nice bokeh. I find it a little long to use as my walkaround lens, so I don't use it that much, but it's perfect for low-light and portraits. Sometimes, it's difficult to focus wide open and in dark/low contrast situations with the extremely shallow depth of field, so I just keep shooting until I get it right. Here are some of my favorite shots with the Pentax FA 50mm 1.4 lens and my Pentax DL. (Man, I wish I had SR in this camera body!)

Pentax FA 50mm 1.4 Sample Photos

Pentax *ist DL ISO 3200 and ISO 1600 Sample Photos : These photos were taken with a Pentax *ist DL at ISO 3200 or ISO 1600 sensitivity using the FA 50mm 1.4 or DA 18-55mm kit, and on the rare occasion, even the DA 50-200mm lens. As you can see, these are very lowlight conditions: dark bars, laptop, single lights, christmas lights, etc. and sometimes taken from a distance (20-35ft). ISO 3200 can be extremely noisy with poor color rendition, but better than no photos at all! No noise reduction has been applied to this images, just resizing for web.

Pentax *ist DL ISO 3200 and ISO 1600 Sample Photos

First Shots : Pentax *ist DL - I chose the DL over the Konica-Minolta 5D, Nikon D50, and Canon Rebel XT for the following reasons: price, quality/array of compatible lenses, small size, nice build, simple menus, good ergonomics, SD cards, AA batteries, good view finder, DOF preview, mirror lockup. So far, I'm pleased with the kit lens, although there is some vignetting at the wide/open end. The AF and buffer speed is not as quick as some of the competition, but it is reliable and reasonably fast. Noise (lack of) is excellent up to 400 ISO, 800 is good. 1600 and 3200 exhibit a fair amount of noise. I wish it had some kind of image stabilization though. All of these were taken with the Pentax 18-55mm kit lens.
